Dauphin County Technical School

When i was in the tenth grade I had heard about this technical school in Harrisburg, pa. I am originally from Pittsburgh but my parents said that we could move closer to it if I felt that passionately about attending that school.

It is called Dauphin County Technical School. It is a place where you can go instead of a regular high school but it directs you to a trade, career or vocation that you want. The schools in my area are less then great and I feel like if I go to Dauphin County Technical School I will have a good chance at succeeding as an adult.

I talked to my guidance counselor about it and she thought that it would be a perfect match for me. She gave me the application and I filled it out. She also gave me an application for my parents to fill out giving their permission for me to attend. We turned in both of the papers to her and in no time at all we were moving over there to the school.

We moved the summer before I started and my parents thought that before I actually started, it would be a good idea to talk to a vocational counselor to see what kind of careers I would be interested in. I really love animals so I decided to go into the veterinary assistant program. It then became the fall and I started school.

I made a lot of friends. It was the best high school I could have ever gone to. It really prepared me for a career as a veterinarian. The counselor that I had was amazing. She helped me out with every problem that I had and when times were tough and I just wanted to quit and go to a regular school, she even took time to tutor me or just listen to my problems.

When I graduated from there, I was accepted into the university of Minnesota. My major was animal science. Luckily Dauphin County Technical School prepared me because the classes that I took at the university were very challenging. It was full of math and science, which of course was obvious since I was pre vet.

When I was done with school I had to take the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam. I passed and applied for a veterinarian job in Jacksonville, fl. I have been at the same clinic for eight years and love it.
